Call For Abstracts: 

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to use the tools of the arts, humanities, social sciences, and other fields to address challenges faced by women and girls around the world, both historically and today. We invite scholars from all academic disciplines to submit proposals that explore these topics and shed light on women’s efforts to affect social change.
Through the study of the past and present of local and global activism, the conference will engage researchers interested in the artistic, economic, educational, ethical, historical, literary, philosophical, political, psychological, religious, and social dimensions of women’s lives and resistance.

Performance and Performativity in Modern South Asia






Performnace and Performativity in Modern South Asia: An Interdiciplinary preconference

This preconference approaches ‘performance’ as both a rich object of analysis and a theoretical framework for the study of South Asian culture and praxis. In so doing, it demands a dedicated engagement with the diverse forms of performance in South Asia ¬– including but not limited to theatre, performance art, dance, music, and performativity. The use of performance as both a tool and an object of analysis is an often under-represented field within the discipline of South Asian Studies, and we seek in this conference to emphasize its importance to topics as diverse as government bureaucracy, feminist protest, and recuperative historiography. By invoking performance as a conceptual category, we illuminate the potential for performative modes of reading and analysis to generate new understandings of the articulations of caste, class, gender and sexuality within South Asia. Given the wide scope of this preconference, we hope to attract scholars and performers from a range of disciplines and sub-fields, uniting them around the question of what performance can do for the study of Modern South Asia.

• Neoliberal frameworks in performance
• Theater as historiography
• The relationship between performance, memory and the archive
• Performance and community: questions of ‘nation,’ ‘culture,’ and belonging

This preconference is invested in approaching performance as a generative site that produces its own forms of embodied knowledges and discursive practices that can challenge, critique and extend the scope of academic scholarship. To this end, we invite enthusiastically invite performers to submit proposals for performances of no more than 30 minutes in length.

This is an internship for young college students or professionals who wish to understand governance, public-policy and administration. The scope of this internship is to monitor and support the projects being undertaken from MLA-LAD funds. The Member of Legislative Assembly [MLA] Local Area Development [LAD] refers to the fund of Rs. 4 Crore rupees available to MLAs for undertaking works for the development of their constituencies. This is an important project since the works undertaken with MLA-LAD fund reflects the aspirations of the people and hence are very sacrosanct. Government of Delhi seeks to engage with the youngsters of this country in the process of improving the implementation of the MLA-LAD scheme. Details are provided below:

Internship requires you to work full time and hence to be based out of Delhi. IIt's minimum duration is 4 weeks, extendable by another 4 weeks depending upon performance.

Interns would be supervised by Deputy Chief Minister's Office and are not entitled for any reimbursements, stipend or any claim of employment with Government of Delhi.

The GHI Internship Program gives German and American students of history, political science, and library studies an opportunity to gain experience at a scholarly research institute. Interns assist individual research projects, work for the library, take part in the preparation and hosting of conferences, and help with our publications. The program is very flexible: the GHI tries to accommodate the interns' interests, abilities, and goals. A two-month minimum stay is required; a three months stay is preferred. There is a rolling review of applications but slots for the 2017 calendar year are now all filled. Applicants interested in coming to Washington in 2018 are encouraged to submit their application by August 31, 2017. German students are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the American visa requirements befor
ehand. The process to obtain visa has become complicated and expensive. Information is available at the website of the American Embassy in Berlin. The GHI cooperates with an organization authorized by the State Department to issue the relevant papers to obtain a visa. Applicants accepted into the internship program will receive further information on the procedure in their acceptance letters.





Funding
The interns receive a small stipend (€ 300) from the GHI. The GHI also covers the cost of applying for the J-1 visa. Interns can also apply for an additional grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). London exerts the charm of the vast setting that concentrates most, if not all, human experiences and nurtures a multitude of self-images, as a site of permanent metamorphosis and progress where individual histories melt into a collective syntagmatic narrative of autonomy, regeneration and assimilation. From ancient Londinium to the 21st-century metropolis, the exceptional metropolis has forged a particular code of conduct governed by imagination, originality and vision that generate almost endless significations of the self.








The conference will explore the particular spirit of the English capital, one of the most influential cities in the world, aiming to identify some of the features that make up its inimitable personality. It will promote an interdisciplinary perspective on the various issues related to the process of making London into a powerful centre of economic and cultural authority. The conference will also focus on the distinctive symbolism of the city and the particular states of mind generated by the interaction with the global hub, and the way in which people - Londoners either by birth or adoption, as well as temporary residents and transient visitors - translate geographically recognisable sites into culturally constructed places.







The main objective of the event is to bring together all those interested in examining the intersections between their professions and/or interests and some distinct aspects of metropolitan life, providing an integrated approach for the understanding of London’s complex nature.
