CFP: Digital Humanities and AI – Intersections, Innovations, and Implications-IIT Dhanbad-31 January -1 February 2025

 



The recent development in Digital Humanities marks a transformative era in academia, where the humanities are increasingly integrating with digital technologies, computational methods, and AI, enhancing research, teaching, and creative outputs. This conference explores how DH sees such development and the evolving relationship between humanities and digital technologies. It focuses on topics that reshape humanities scholarship, from data analysis and pedagogy to creative production. This fosters interdisciplinary dialogues and examines innovations and implications in fields traditionally centered around humanistic inquiry. AI technologies like machine learning, natural language processing, and generative models have expanded the digital humanists' toolkit. Their ability to process and analyze vast datasets opens up new research possibilities in archives, literature, history, philosophy, language, cultural studies and other areas, However, these opportunities come with challenges such as ethical concerns, reinforcing biases, and other implications.

About Central University of Kashmir

The Central University of Jammu & Kashmir was stablished alongside 15 other Central Universities in the year 2009 by an Act of Parliament. Later the university was bifurcated into two Universities: the Central  University of Kashmir (CUK) and the Central University of Jammu (CUJ). Currently, the University has Nine (09) schools with 21 constituent Teaching Departments offering over 45 PG, UG, diploma, research, and Vocational programmes.

About the Department of English
The Department of English is the first department established in the School of Languages (SOL), Central University of Kashmir. The Department provides an intellectually nourishing and conducive atmosphere to the students aspiring to undertake an in-depth study of English Literature as it offers a variety of courses covering all the major genres of English literature and the fundamentals of English language teaching.

Concept Note
The PAN-NIT Research Conclave on "Humanities at the Crossroads: The Convergence of Technology, Language, and Literature" seeks to explore the dynamic interplay between traditional humanities disciplines and emerging technological advancements. This conclave aims to provide a platform for intellectual exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and collaborative exploration among scholars, researchers, and students from 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across India.
In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the boundaries between technology, language, and literature are becoming increasingly blurred. The infusion of technology into humanities disciplines has opened up new avenues for analysis, interpretation, and expression, revolutionizing traditional approaches to scholarship and creative endeavors. This conclave aims to critically examine the challenges and opportunities presented by this convergence, exploring its implications for pedagogy, research, and societal engagement.

The PAN-NIT Research Conclave on "Humanities at Crossroads: The Convergence of Technology, Language, and Literature" promises to be a stimulating and enriching forum for exploring the transformative potential of technology within the humanities domain. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, promoting ethical reflection, and embracing innovative pedagogical practices, this conclave aims to empower scholars, researchers, and students to navigate the complex intersection of technology, language, and literature in the digital age.
The Research Conclave includes Directors’ Dialogue, Heads’ forum discussion, webinars, panel discussions and an International Conference

IDEAS: Journal of English Literary Studies is an international, electronically published and double blind peer-reviewed journal devoted to English literary studies. The journal aims to provide a highly qualified academic platform for the exchange of diverse critical and original ideas on any aspect of
literatures written in English, cultural studies, and literary theory. We accept works in the following areas:

The seventh issue will be published in April 2024. Original articles, interviews, and book reviews by academics working towards their PhD and above will be considered for publication in IDEAS.

Call for Book Chapters: Voices Unveiled: Women in Literary Landscapes-March, 2024




The profound and transformative impact of women in literary landscapes cannot be overstated. Women writers have not only enriched the literary canon with their unique voices and perspectives but also challenged societal norms, broadening the scope of narratives. Their contributions span diverse genres, historical periods, and cultural contexts, unveiling hidden stories and reshaping the literary terrain. From advocating for social change to expressing nuanced experiences, the influence of women in literature is an indispensable force that continues to shape our understanding of the human experience.
It is with great enthusiasm that we announce a call for book chapters that explore the multifaceted relationship between women and literature. This upcoming edited volume aims to delve into the diverse roles, representations, and contributions of women in literary works across genres, cultures, and historical periods.






Scope and Focus:
We invite contributions that analyze, critique, or celebrate the portrayal of women in literature. Potential topics may include, but are not limited to:
  • Representation of women in classic and contemporary literature
  • Feminist perspectives in literary works
  • Women writers and their impact on literary movements
  • Gender dynamics and power structures in literature
  • Women and linguistic and cultural influence
  • Masculinity/ Male gaze and womanhood
  • Intersectionality: exploring race, class, sexuality, and other identities in women’s literature

Submission Guidelines:
The proposed chapters must be authentic and not previously published. The chapter length should span between 5,000 to 8,000 words (including references), utilizing Times New Roman font size 12 with double spacing in between lines. References and citations should follow the MLA Handbook's guidelines (9th Edition) without incorporating any footnotes but instead containing end notes. A statement declaring that the work is an original piece that has not been published elsewhere or is under consideration for publication must be included.


Additionally, an abstract of no more than 500 words with five keywords should be provided alongside a short biographical note about the contributor/s indicating their name(s), institutional affiliation(s), brief career history, postal address(es), contact address(es) (both personal and office), and email id as a single attachment.

International #Conference on Endangered #Folk #Literarture and Culture of Jetor and other Indian #Indigenous #Communities: Documentation, Department of English, Vidyasagar University Digitalization, and Translation in the Global Context-



Every community craves a sense of identity in this world, and continuity with the cultural past. This is more so with the communities whose language, literature and culture are on the verge of extinction on account of multiple factors. Literature and culture can offer indigenous communities a sense of belonging and promote social cohesion, respect for diversity, human creativity as well as help people connect with each other. Hence, the call to preserve endangered folk cultural heritage of communities such as the Jetor, an indigenous nomadic community of Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram settled on the edges of Kangsabati and Subarnarekha. UNESCO has declared 2022-2032 as the decade of indigenous languages. In the global context, many countries are making concerted efforts to encourage and support measures to safeguard and transmit the cultural heritage of indigenous communities. Various government institutions (for example, the ICSSR, Sahitya Akademi, and Sangeet Natok Akademi in India), groups, individuals, NGOs, researchers and scholars are engaged in strengthening, protecting, preserving and promoting the tangible and intangible folk cultural heritage. In this context of extinction and vulnerability documentation, digitization, and translation can play a pivotal role.




Documentation of manuscripts, songbooks and performances along with their preservation in community centres, archives, museums or libraries for consultation, leads to meaningful research in the field of Cultural Studies. Digitization, the creation and sharing of computer-processed materials in the forms of texts, databases, etc., is one of the vital means of preserving endangered indigenous cultural heritage. UNESCO has been stressing the conversion of the existing analogue cultural resources into digital form and preservation of indigenous cultural heritage through digitization. Digitization of ‘endangered’ indigenous folk cultural heritage in its original form and language is a crying need as the communities and their languages carrying the legacy of those cultures are fast going extinct. In the 1980s Translation witnessed a cultural turn and since then translation is being used as a significant tool not only to expose asymmetrical power relations between the cultures negotiated in translation but also in charting cultural histories of indigenous communities among others. Documentation, digitization, and translation are vital to the Indian context as many of the languages spoken by the scheduled and non-scheduled people, Adivasi people, and nomadic people are critically endangered.

The Conference purports to create an important opportunity for researchers, scholars, teachers, policymakers, and indigenous people to engage with and contribute to the discourse of documentation, digitization and translation in the context of indigenous cultural studies with a view to safeguarding, helping to grow and transmitting endangered cultural heritage. The Conference focuses on but is not limited to the following sub-themes:

• Identity and well-being of endangered communities vis-à-vis cultural heritage

• Endangered cultural heritage vis-à-vis international cooperation and assistance

• Endangered cultural heritage, sustainable development and cultural diversity

• Endangered cultural heritage and global awareness building

• Documentation, Digitization, and Translation vis-à-vis the role of performance

• Perspectives on Indigeneity and endangered languages of the world vis-à-vis documentation, digitization, and translation

• Theories and practices of documentation, digitization, and translation

Abstracts with the following specifications on the themes of the Conference are invited for presentation at the Conference (blended mode). We have a plan to publish an edited volume comprising select papers (either from the ICSSR publication division or from a publishing house of repute). However, since the Conference is part of an ICSSR Project, the matter regarding the publication of an edited volume is subject to the approval of the ICSSR authorities, and nothing can be committed in this regard until permission is obtained.
